When is Kinkakuji most crowded?
- Busiest 13:00–14:00 every day: 65–75 on weekdays, 78–85 at weekends, 90 in peak season (out of 100).
- Quietest right at opening, 09:00–10:00 (30–35), then the last hour, 16:00–17:00 (34–43). Gates close at 17:00.
- School-trip months (May, June, October and November): weekday mornings 09:00–11:00 get +20, so on those weekdays the last hour is the quiet one.

Why isn't it always quiet right at opening?
School groups. In May, June, October and November, our estimate adds 20 points on weekdays from 09:00 to 11:00. Weekends and public holidays don't get the addition.

Does the weather change the crowds?
In our estimate, yes: −15 on days with rain in the forecast, +15 on days with snow, then kept within 0–100. A snowy November day at 13:00 would reach the cap: 90 + 15 → 100.

The +20 applies only to weekday mornings 09:00–11:00; weekend mornings stay quiet.

Take the subway, then a short bus ride
Kyoto's tourism association advises against bus 205 all the way from Kyoto Station: many stops and crowded buses. Take the subway to Kitaoji, then 11 minutes by bus. Routes from Kyoto Station

- Is Kinkakuji busy in November?
- November is peak season in our estimate every day of the month: 90 out of 100 at 13:00. At weekends the first hour is the quietest (39). On weekdays, school groups push 09:00–10:00 to 59 and 10:00–11:00 to 78, so the quietest hour is 16:00–17:00 (45).
- Is Kinkakuji less crowded when it rains?
- Our estimate takes 15 points off on days the Japan Meteorological Agency forecasts rain for southern Kyoto, and adds 15 on days it forecasts snow. Values stay within 0–100.
- Is Kinkakuji busier at weekends?
- Outside peak season, yes, especially on Saturdays: at 13:00 we estimate 85 on Saturday and 78 on Sunday, against 65–75 on weekdays. Friday and Monday are the busiest weekdays. In peak season (25 Mar–10 Apr and 1–30 Nov) every day uses the same peak values.
